..”I can eat a pound of truffles but limit myself to a small amount of semi sweet each day. I used to eat half a pound some days, it was never enough. The flavor, the smooth texture, I would never take it over sex but it’s a close second.”..(From ThirdAge blog, see link below).
This may be the feeling of many of us when craving for chocolate. But scientists when forgetting their own love for chocolate, try to transform ‘Chocolate Love’ into bacteria living in our digestive system
From “Scientists Explain Chocolate Cravings”, (an article from AP published on “Wired” (Oct 12, 2007)) , there is an explanation why most of us fall in love with chocolate. Here are some experts.
…”If that craving for chocolate sometimes feels like it is coming from deep in your gut, that’s because maybe it is.”…”A small study links the type of bacteria living in people’s digestive system to a desire for chocolate. Everyone has a vast community of microbes in their guts. But people who crave daily chocolate show signs of having different colonies of bacteria than people who are immune to chocolate’s allure.”…..That may be the case for other foods, too. The idea could eventually lead to treating some types of obesity by changing the composition of the trillions of bacteria occupying the intestines and stomach, said Sunil Kochhar, co-author of the study. It appears Friday in the peer-reviewed Journal of Proteome Research.
Kochhar is in charge of metabolism research at the Nestle Research Center in Lausanne, Switzerland. The food conglomerate Nestle SA paid for the study. But this isn’t part of an effort to convert a few to the dark side (or even milk) side of cocoa, Kocchar said. In fact, the study was delayed because it took a year for the researchers to find 11 men who don’t eat chocolate.”… jokingly (they where) called “weird” for their indifference to chocolate,”… see the full article.
But in a finishing accord of chocolate love, far away from bacteria living in people’s digestive system I cannot refrain to quote from the ” ThirdAge Blog“, where women explain their craving for chocolate:
…”I have LOVED chocolate since I was a child, especially M&M’s and that they are in dark chocolate, I’m in heaven. Chocolate is GOOD for every type of emotion you go through. Keep CHOCOLATE flowing forever.
…” I too love chocolate and have a piece most every day. Have you tried enjoying a small piece of really good quality dark chocolate? Eat it slowly and savor the flavor. There are so many quality chocolates to choose from. Two of my favorites are Frey’s Supreme Citron and Poivre and Green and Black’s organcic Maya Gold (has a hint of orange and spices in the dark chocolate which I love).”…
What can be more sweet?
And what is my opinion: Chocolate is not a food it is a State Of Mind.
