I quote from Megan Craig‘s book “LEVINAS and JAMES” on page 31: “Levinas’s insomniac
cannot think straight, and yet, in her intensified susceptibility and sensitivity
to everything around her, she discovers that thinking is only one
aspect of her humanity and that the world she cannot escape is also the
world that refuses to abandon her. Insomnia signifies both a risk and a hope:
