I WAS HIDING …IN DIEGHEM, 1940.
In 1940 the Allies bombed the occupied military Nazi airport located between Dieghem and Zaventem. I was hiding from the Nazis in Suzanne And Albert Decraen’s house in Dieghem. The heavy bombing, beginning at 8.00 in the morning, destroyed many planes caught on the earth and killed and wounded many people in the Tenaertslaan, where I lived with Suzanne and Albert and their newborn daugther Denise.By miracle we all survive.

I met Mr Willy Kelner on several occassions and his sons Michel and Pierre. Pierre was at school at one time with me in England and I used to visit him from time to time in Belgium but I have since lost touch with him. I nicer family you could hope to meet, always very interesting and friendly.

Powerful! I was born in Liege and have lived in the US since 1978. My mother Adele Bresler lived in Brussels under an assumed christian name with a birth certificate created by the mayor of a village – the uncle of the George family who took my mother in – My mother applied for them to be nominated on the wall at Yad Vashem. We visited the wall in 2007 and took pictures. My father was also hidden with a friend on a farm, probably not far from where you were hiding. He was moved by his parents to Pont-a-Mousson in France at some point during the war. I have some photos of Liege and the Condroz region on my blog which may remind you of what Awagne may look like. I forwarded the link to your post to a friend who used to live in Dieghem…

Ps: My family is originally from Zdunska Wola and I used to go to summer camp with Daniel Wagner and his brother in Coxyde,Belgium.

Thanks for your likes…I see that our WW2 (Belgium} personal history has much in common including the facts that your family and my family are originally from Zdunska Wola.Your mother’s story reminds my own, because during the war my christian name was Marcel Verhoeven…Anyway I see that you are on facebook … so if we made a friend request there will be a mutual follow up..

Bonjour.
Je suis occupé à retracer l’histoire du home de Leffe (près de Dinant)
qui sauva beaucoup d’enfants juifs, avec notamment l’aide de la famille Kellner (Michel Kellner est un ami, il a 72 ans) et les pères de l’abbaye de Leffe.
Qui peut correspondre avec moi?
C’est très important de témoigner! Très important!

J’étais très surpris de recevoir votre email….et à propos de
l’Homme de Leffe, pendant la guerre en 1942-43, j’étais cacher a
l’Homme en tant qu’enfant Juif et de la je suis arriver a Awagne chez
la famille Kellner, ou j’ai connus Michel qui était un petit
bébé,,,Sur ce point je vous serais très reconnaissant de me
transmettre l’email de Michel pour renouer mes liens avec lui…En
tous cas si mon aide a l’égard de l’Homme de Leffe vous serait utile
je le ferais avec plaisir …
